The saga surrounding pop culture’s king of controversy, Kanye West, has taken another mesmerising turn this week.
These developments follow Ye’s bizarre lunch with Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday, in what CNN are calling “Trump’s black people meeting”. Though cameras weren’t permitted access to the talk itself, West gave ample insight afterwards with a trademark rant to the world’s media.
Many were left shocked by Ye’s pro-Trump agenda, highlights of which include saying that his ‘MAGA’ hat makes him “feel like Superman” and that “[Trump] gave me a superhero cape!” West then went on to describe his lucrative business ties with Adidas as “The Yeezy Effect”, aligning his position of power with Trump’s political landscape.
Atlanta Rap don T.I. went to Instagram to vent his fury with Ye for “auctioning off his soul”:
“This is the most repulsive, disgraceful, embarrassing act of desperation & auctioning off of one’s soul to gain power I’ve ever seen. Now I recall you asking me to come with you to have this meeting and I declined (naturally)… but bro… if ain’time I would’ve been in there wit you and you behaved that spinelessly in my presence,I feel that I’d be compelled to slap de’Fuq outta you bro For the People!!!”
T.I. then seemingly severs all ties with Kanye, urging fans to view him as a “puppet”:
“THIS IS A MOVE YE MADE FOR YE!!! THIS IS A PLAY TO PUT HIM IN A POSITION HE’D LIKE TO SEE HIMSELF IN…WE ARE NOT ON HIS MIND AS HE MAKES THESE COMMENTS AND DECISIONS. Don’t follow this puppet.”
No stranger to causing outrage, it remains to be seen whether Yeezy will pay any attention to the cold shoulder from T.I. and sections of his fanbase alike.
