Raised in Columbus, Lee Music is an artist who believes authenticity will always outlast trends. Inspired by personal experiences, Midwest influence, and the responsibilities of family life, Lee creates music rooted in growth, leadership, and truth. His latest work reflects maturity, intentionality, and a desire to inspire listeners to become better versions of themselves.
What part of your life do you think people hear the most in your music, even if you never directly say it?
Most of my music is inspired by my childhood, especially from ages 12 to 17. Those years shaped the man I am today and heavily influenced how I see the world.
When people hear your name for the first time, what do you want them to immediately associate you with besides music?
Creative authenticity. I focus on telling my truth and avoid lyrics that contradict my upbringing or lifestyle. Even if my subject matter differs from popular records, I still want the music to feel exciting and invigorating.
What environment shaped your sound the most?
My hometown, Columbus, Ohio, had the greatest impact on my sound. That’s where I fell in love with hip-hop and connected with the Midwest sound. My experiences there gave me perspective and shaped who I became.
A lot of artists rap about where they’re from. What does your story say about where you’re going?
My story says I come from a middle-class family that valued work ethic and education. Now, I focus on being a good husband and father who can provide stability for his family. My EP Madura Blend reflects that mindset heavily.
What’s something about your creative process that would surprise people?
I take a long time with my music. I’m a perfectionist, so I’ll spend months on a few songs to make sure I’m truly happy with what I’m sharing.
Do you feel like your music is more about self-expression or something bigger?
It started with self-expression and storytelling, but as I’ve matured, the music has become bigger than me. I want it to inspire positive change and impact listeners in a meaningful way.
What’s one lesson life taught you early that still shows up in your work?
Nobody will believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself. When I was younger, I lacked confidence in my music. Now I focus on trusting my creativity, and that confidence invites people into my artistry.
How do you balance relatability while still telling your truth?
My truth always comes first. I make music that feels authentic to me and something I’d enjoy even if I didn’t create it. People can tell when an artist is dishonest.
What motivates you the most right now?
The love of music and responsibility toward my family. I genuinely love hip-hop, but making quality music takes time away from family, so I stay focused on balancing both.
When somebody finishes listening to your music, what feeling do you hope stays with them?
I want people to feel inspired to become the best version of themselves. My music is about growth, leadership, and enjoying life.
Lee Music continues to prove that authenticity and substance still matter in hip-hop. Through personal storytelling, Midwest soul, and mature perspective, he’s creating music that feels both relatable and uplifting — records that challenge listeners to grow while still enjoying the journey.
